You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
– Galatians 5:13
Love in Action is the core of all our ministries at Open Arms. We are committed to ensuring that everything we do reflects and extends the love that Jesus has for all people. The Love in Action ministry is led by a dedicated team whose mission is to demonstrate the love of Christ in both meaningful and practical ways within our community. This is accomplished through two primary avenues:
- Providing practical acts of service to support those in need.
- Engaging in enjoyable and simple acts of service that create opportunities for outreach and the sharing of the Gospel.
These acts of service unite us as a church family and cultivate a mindset that we are not a church confined to four walls, seeking to be served, but rather a church actively engaged in serving our community. The role of the Love in Action team is to plan and organize events that provide opportunities for our church family to participate in service at various times throughout the year. Examples of Love in Action initiatives include offering free hot chocolate, cookies, and caroling during the Christmas Parade; providing firewood for the sick and elderly; constructing a deck and ramp; painting homes; distributing carnations on Mother’s Day; giving free coffee to men on Father’s Day; shoveling driveways; cleaning bathrooms at local businesses; and hosting the “Love Your Neighbor Challenge,” which encourages individuals to undertake personal acts of service. Our goal is to discover and implement simple, effective ways of “getting out there” for Jesus, sharing His love through tangible actions.
