You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
Galatians 5:13
Love in Action is the heart of all our ministries at Open Arms; we want
everything we do to be an extension and expression of the love that
Jesus has for people. The Love in Action ministry is led by a team whose
desire is to show the love of Christ in fun and practical ways to our
community. This happens in two ways:
1) practical acts of service that help someone in need
2) fun and simple acts of service that present opportunities for outreach and sharing the gospel.
These acts of service bond us together as a church family and develop a mindset from the start that we are not a church contained to four walls wanting to be served but are out in our community wanting to serve.
The team’s job is to plan and organize events for our church family to participate in giving everyone opportunities to serve at different times. Some examples of Love in Action have been serving free hot chocolate, cookies, and carolling during the Christmas Parade, putting in wood for the sick and elderly, building a deck and ramp, painting a house, giving out carnations on Mother’s Day, giving free coffee to men on Father’s Day, shovelling driveways, cleaning bathrooms at local businesses, having a Love your Neighbor Challenge where we challenge each other to do personal Love In Action on our own. Our goal is to find simple ways of “getting out there” for Jesus.
